LiquidSpring accomplished significant results in 2013 and we would like to share some of those accomplishments with you. Our sales and production efforts paid off, shipping nearly 200 CLASS Suspensions. We have several suspensions on trucks out in the field with over 100,000 miles, going through their second winter, with no weather related incidents (i.e. freezing issues). This is good news for the EMS community! We are also proud to report that we completed development of three new products: GM 3500/4500, International TerraStar 4x2, and Ford F650.

AEV now nation's top ambulance maker

At the recent National Pool Account meeting, Ford Motor Company recognized AEV as the #1 Volume Ambulance Manufacturer in the industry.
“The ambulance industry is a very critical segment to the public safety of the US, and to Ford Motor Company,” stated Jerry Renauer, vocational manager for Ford. “AEV has continued to grow to the point where they have now taken the coveted #1 slot.”
AEV manufactures all models of EMS vehicles from their production facilities in Jefferson. AEV units are distributed throughout the world by a network of dedicated emergency vehicle dealers.
“Being recognized by Ford as #1 is a great honor to our nameplate and to the AEV team,” said Mark Van Arnam, CEO of AEV. “We have continued to grow every year since our start in 1990, spending a few years in both the #3 and then the #2 positions. We have finally won the gold medal of our industry.”
Van Arnam further announced that AEV has earned another honor this year, specifically being named as a Carolina STAR company by the North Carolina Department of Labor OSHA Division.
“There are over 250,000 companies in North Carolina, and only 103 of them have been designated as STAR companies,” Van Arnam said. “Building the safest vehicles in the industry for our customers is a top priority, and being recognized as having an exemplary safety program and production facility is a vital part of that process. ”The Carolina STAR rating recognizes and promotes effective workplace safety and health management and is granted to companies that achieve average injury rates at least 50 percent lower than other companies in their respective industries. To obtain the rating, the worksite must first apply, submit to a visit from OSHA representatives, review OSHA recommendations and wait to receive the results of the panel’s report.
The Carolina STAR program is the North Carolina equivalent of the Federal OSHA VPP program. The Voluntary Protection Programs, according to OSHA’s website, promotes effective worksite-based safety and health by establishing cooperative relationships at workplaces that have implemented a comprehensive safety and health management system.

In 2000, AEV shattered records by testing and certifying the AEV modular body to more than double the 150% curb weight standard. In addition, they performed a body side test that had never been seen before. Now AEV has broken that record with a 55,000 pound body test on the top and side of the module. Based on current research in ambulance safety, the structure of the modular body us a vital component of occupant safety and risk. The US Federal Ambulance Standard KKK-A-1822E provides a detailed standard and test criteria for modular ambulance body load testing. Ambulance manufacturers are required to certify that their bodies to a 150% load test applied to the roof of the vehicle. No side load is required. In 2000, American Emergency Vehicles (AEV) of Jefferson, North Carolina, shattered industry criteria by successfully testing a body to 36,000 pounds. AEV then pushed even further by applying this load not only on the roof, but on the side of their body as well. At that time, the company stated that these tests clearly demonstrated the superior strength of the AEV body.
Five years later, AEV has made significant enhancements in the structure of their ambulance bodies in the interest of occupant safety/ To validate their design, they have now announced that they have tested and certified their body to 55,000 pounds on both the roof and side. The AEV test has now raised the bar on ambulance body structure criteria. It will be interesting to see the industry reaction to this significant development.
